There are 3 specific ways to keep their data safe:

For each user, access to patient data can be limited to only one practice provider, several or all providers.   For large multi-specialty provider groups spread across multiple locations, this enables patient access to be assigned to the appropriate users based on the office they “work in.”

 

The user is unable to open a patient chart for patients being treated by any “unlocked” provider.

 

Specified functions in the software can only be performed by a user who has been indicated to be a designated “Security Official”.        This designation is typically reserved for upper level administrators and business owners.

 

These functions are:

Create a new user
Inactivate a user
Delete a User
Designate role groups and assign them to users
Give access to a physician's patient charts to users
Create another security official
Revoke the security official privilege from another security official
Change the security configuration properties
Add a non-practice user to the practice
Remove a practice user from the practice

All functions in the medical billing software fall into one of three security level categories:

                                              

The security official creates Role Groups, such as front desk, biller, biller manager, administration, and physicians.  Each role group is assigned functions as appropriate from the security levels.

 

Sensitive areas like the Payment Manager can be set as view only versus the ability to write, accept and remove payments.

Other financially sensitive areas, like the Report Center and  Accounts Receivables can also be accessed only by those given permission.
