Did You Mess Up Picking Your Billing Software?

I live in Florida.  It’s a state well known for sunny days, hot weather and summertime rain. Summer by the way is about March to December.

Residents often joke that meteorologists here have it easy. “Today’s weather will be hot with a chance of rain.”

Frankly sometimes it seems like they just spin a wheel and see where it lands. If it doesn’t rain, or rains more or less than predicted, oh well, they are not penalized for being wrong.

Most of the rest of us live with the repercussions of errors in decision making at work.  If you are looking for medical billing service software or need physician billing software for your medical office, this can be one of the most crucial decisions influencing your financial success.

I came across an article the other day that gave a new perspective to this selection process.  Instead of considering only the software and its functionality, it suggests evaluating the vendor as well.  I used to be on the consumer side, but now I am on the vendor side, Medical Business Systems, so this intrigued me.  I wanted to learn more about how my cohorts and I fit into this picture.

The article had 18 areas, but I think that is a little much to cover in one blog, so here are three I especially liked:

Innovation

Responsiveness to enhancements requested by or based on the influence of customers.  Iridium Suite has a built-in “Contact Support” form where clients can send a direct email request for a system enhancement.

A recent request was to increase some field sizes and provide “mouse over” descriptions to assist in payment posting and AR follow up.  Here is the response we received from that customer:

“Hi,
It is Awesome! Already helped me posting pmts!
Thanks so much!”

Training

We have one of the most thorough training processes in the industry.  20 hours is allotted by the dedicated support representative to train all new customers using their own customized training database. Once live, complimentary daily hands-on training is available for the first week.  The first 90 days is a “free support” period providing even more opportunity for staff to feel knowledgeable and confident with the software.

Integration and interfaces

Iridium Suite was originally developed to optimize radiation oncology billing by importing charge data from various “Record and Verify” programs used in that specialty.  Our ability to communicate with other electronic health records (EHRs) has grown based on our Connectivity Clearinghouse.  We utilize the standard format of HL7 to both import and export patient data between “unrelated” systems.
