We are rolling into 2020 (#rollinginto2020) full steam ahead. Our targets have been identified, the marketing budget is approved.
Just a moment, let’s pause and think about this.
This past decade was a lesson in passive engagement communication technique. I mean social media marketing. We used thoughtful wording to anticipate need in our execution to achieve search engine optimization. We crafted messages as acknowledgement of conditions present to demonstrate our understanding. We monitored and measured engagement to tune our digital voice to the tone of activity.
Blah, blah, blah.
What did we learn?
The thing that was missing was the person.
Sure we may have accomplished numbers of impressions, but we did not build relationships.
Relationships are built on social capital (#socialcapital). A relationship void of #socialcapital is vaper. A relationship built on #socialcapital is founded in the exchange of verbal and physical communications – then, it is the kernals of verbal and physical exchange that serve as building blocks for incremental opportunity.
The old-fashioned method of creating and building lasting relationships is the time-tested method that works. Social media is cluttered with so much noise, so many distractions. Yet engaging in a room across the table serves as dedicated, concentrated, uninterrupted, uncluttered high-quality time to probe for vitally relevant information that simply cannot bubble-up in a social media format.
Let’s gear up as we are #rollinginto2020 where the old method becomes the new method. Effective, lasting training and skill development returns to on-site, on-premise. Trusted relationships are born not on a smart device rather, by #face-to-face, across the table, in the exhibit booth, back where business was always born, mano-a-mano.
